Fairgrounds, farmers markets, and a downtown that still feels like a hometown. Puyallup grew from valley farmland into one of the county's most complete places to raise a family, and living in Puyallup still moves at a front-porch pace.

Downtown's antique row and the Pioneer Park pavilion anchor the valley floor. South Hill carries the growth with newer neighborhoods, retail, and the college. The Washington State Fair takes over every September, and locals plan their month around it.
The housing follows the terrain. Valley-floor streets near downtown hold the older character homes, walking distance to the Saturday farmers market at Pioneer Park, the Meeker Mansion, and the Riverwalk Trail along the Puyallup River. Up on South Hill, planned communities like Sunrise and Gem Heights carry most of the newer inventory, close to the Meridian shopping corridor, Pierce College, Bradley Lake Park, and MultiCare Good Samaritan Hospital, one of the city's biggest employers.

Families chasing schools and space, and Seattle commuters who would rather ride the Sounder from its southern end than fight for a park-and-ride spot further north.
Getting around
Puyallup, WA is one of the few South Sound cities where skipping the drive is realistic. The Sounder S Line leaves from the downtown station on West Main, backed by more than a thousand park-and-ride stalls, and reaches Seattle's King Street Station in about 50 minutes. By road, SR 512 puts you on I-5 in about ten minutes, SR 167 runs north through the valley toward Sumner and the Auburn and Kent job centers, and Meridian (SR 161) climbs South Hill toward Graham. Figure roughly 20 minutes to Tacoma, 25 to 30 to JBLM via 512 and I-5, and an hour or more to Seattle by car at peak: which is exactly why the train fills up.
