Living here
The historic waterfront holds the restaurants and the views. Up the hill, Gig Harbor North adds newer neighborhoods, the hospital, and the retail you actually need. The toll bridge is the tax you pay for all of it, and most people living in Gig Harbor decide it's worth every dollar.
Downtown, Skansie Brothers Park and Jerisich Dock anchor the boardwalk, and the paved Cushman Trail runs the length of the city for walkers and cyclists. Point Fosdick and Artondale hold the established view neighborhoods on the south end. Harbor Hill in Gig Harbor North is where most of the new construction lands, with Uptown's shops and restaurants in between.
Who it fits
Buyers with flexibility: remote workers, retirees, and anyone whose heart rate drops when the boat masts come into view. Peninsula schools are a draw of their own.

Getting around
SR-16 is the spine. It carries you over the Narrows to Tacoma and I-5 in about 15 minutes outside of rush hour, and northwest to Bremerton and the shipyard in roughly 35 to 40. The toll runs one direction only: eastbound toward Tacoma, cheapest with a Good To Go pass. Figure about half an hour to JBLM and a solid hour to downtown Seattle, more at peak. Pierce Transit's Route 100 links Purdy, Gig Harbor North, downtown, and the Kimball Drive park and ride to Tacoma Community College, where you can transfer into the rest of the network.
