Living in Bremerton. The comeback story.
Shipyard town turned comeback story, with direct fast ferries putting downtown Seattle about half an hour away by water. Living in Bremerton, WA gets you some of the best value per square foot on Puget Sound, and the momentum is visible block by block.

Manette's bridge-and-bungalow charm leads the revival, with cafes and a tight neighborhood feel across the inlet from downtown. The shipyard and Naval Base Kitsap anchor the job market. The ferry terminal anchors everything else.
Much of the close-in housing stock dates to the shipyard's boom decades: early-1900s and wartime bungalows on compact grid lots in West Bremerton and Manette, then midcentury ranchers as you move up Wheaton Way into East Bremerton and out toward Kitsap Lake. Evergreen Rotary Park puts lawn and a swimming beach right on the Port Washington Narrows, and Kitsap Lake gives the west side its own freshwater weekend spot.

Getting around
Two boats leave from the same downtown terminal: Kitsap Transit's passenger-only fast ferry crosses to downtown Seattle in about 30 minutes, and the Washington State Ferries car boat takes about an hour. On land, SR 304 ties downtown and the shipyard gates to SR 3, the freeway spine that runs north to Silverdale in about 15 minutes. SR 303 crosses the Warren Avenue Bridge to East Bremerton, and the Manette Bridge links Manette straight into downtown. Driving to Tacoma means SR 3 to SR 16 over the Narrows Bridge, roughly 45 minutes to an hour depending on traffic. Kitsap Transit buses fan out from the Bremerton Transportation Center at the ferry dock.
